Niles Girls Basketball wins the 1st Round of Districts. The Lady Vikings had a slow start only getting 2 buckets from Elly Matlock in the first quarter. Niles was able to get into a rhythm in the second quarter outscoring the Falcons by 10 points. Niles came out at half time focused on their defense allowing some easy points. Amara Palmer led scorers with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 6 steals. Natalie Lucero contributed 10 points and 3 steals. Kamryn Patterson and Elly Matlock chipped in 9 points and 5 steals each. Matlock also pulled down 8 rebounds. Constantine was led by Charlee Balcom with 10 points.
Niles will play Vicksburg at Edwardsburg for the 2nd round of Districts at 7:00pm on Wednesday. This will be the third time Niles faces Vicksburg this season. Both games have gone in Vicksburg's favor (47-55 & 47 - 57).

Niles trailed Sturgis by 10 points at the half after struggling the first two quarters on Monday night. The Vikings scored one point in the 2nd quarter, shooting 23% in the 1st and 0% in the second. The Lady Vikings returned to the court shooting 45% in the second half. Amara Palmer recorded a double-double (22 points and 10 rebounds); Palmer also had 7 assist and 5 steals. Elly Matlock and Natalie Lucero contributed 11 points each. Kamryn Patterson pulled down 9 rebounds to go along with 8 points. The Trojan's were led by Y. Villafuerte with 13 points.

Niles wins over Berrien Springs on Senior Night. Seniors, Natalie Lucero, Amara Palmer, and Kamryn Patterson were honored. Natalie Lucero came out ready to play. Lucero led scoring with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Palmer had a triple-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 steals. Palmer also had 6 assists. Brynn and Bree Lake pulled down 8 rebounds each. Berrien Springs was led by Taneya Shivers with 13 points.

Niles took a tough loss against Dowagiac. Amara Palmer recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Palmer also gave the Lady Vikings 8 steals and 4 assists. Kamryn Patterson ended the night with 11 points. Elly Matlock chipped in 8 points and 10 rebounds. Unfortunately, it was not enough to keep the Cheiftans at bay. Niles took a tough loss to Vicksburg this evening. Vicksburg went into halftime with a 9 point lead and never looked back. The Vikings tried to creep up on the Bulldogs, but just didn't have enough fight. Amara Palmer led all scorers with 16 points, dished out 7 assists, and came up with 4 steals on the night. Kamryn Patterson added 11 points and 4 steals. Brynn Lake recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Lake also took 3 offensive charges. Vicksburg was led by Scarlett Hosner with 10 points.

A big 23 point first quarter helped jump start the Lady Vikings tonight. Niles was led by Sophomore, Elly Matlock, with 20 points. Matlock was just 2 steals shy of a triple-double (20 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 steals). Amara Palmer chipped in 17 points, 5 assists, and 7 steals. Kamryn Patterson scored her 11 points in the 1st quarter including 3 baskets from the arc. Patterson also gave us 8 steals adn 6 assists for the night. Brynn Lake added 6 points. Sturgis was led by Korin Whitcomb with 15 points.

Despite Niles' 14 point deficit at the end of the 1st quarter, the Lady Vikings turned up the defense to hold the Bears to one field goal during the second quarter. Niles' momentum continued through the third, outscoring St. Joe nine to six. The Bears' Cailynn Junk tied together 6 of her 15 points in the 4th quarter to seal the win for St. Joe. Niles' Seniors led the Vikings in scoring - Palmer 13, Patterson 10 and Lucero 8. Palmer recorded 8 rebounds, 6 steals, and 6 assists; Patterson had 5 rebounds and 4 steals. Elly Matlock also pulled down 7 rebounds.

Unfortunately the time expired before the Lady Vikings could fight back into the game. Amara Palmer led all scorers with 17 points and 3 steals; Kamryn Patterson had 15 points and 4 assists. Elly Matlock recorded a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds. Natalie Lucero and Brynn Lake chipped in 8 and 7 points respectively. Lake also pulled down 8 rebounds. The Bucks were led by Hannah Herman with 16 points.

The Niles Girls Basketball dominated the game against Allegan Friday night. The Vikings had four players score in double digits (Palmer - 24, Patterson - 17, Matlock - 13, and Brynn Lake - 10). Amara Palmer recorded a double-double in points and rebounds (12); In addition to seven steals and six assists. Kamryn Patterson also contributed a double-double in points and steals (10). Elly Matlock and Brynn Lake pulled down 7 and 6 rebounds respectively. Allegan was led by Carlee Rynearson with 14 points.

Vikings Lose: 37 - 45
Niles fell short against Otsego on Tuesday night. Despite the loss Coach Jessica Johnson was happy with the overall performance from the Lady Vikings. "There were a lot of bright spots in our performance. Otsego is a strong team and we were right there with them. We had less turnovers and out rebounded our opponent, however, they were able to convert their possessions into points which we were not." Otsego's C. Miller led all scorers with 15 points. Niles was led by their Seniors, Kamryn Patterson (10 points), Amara Palmer (9 points), and Natalie Lucero (7 points).; Palmer and Brynn Lake pulled down 8 and 7 rebounds respectively; Lucero and Palmer dished out 3 assist each.

Vikings Lose: 36 - 40
The Lady Vikings fell short once again. Niles held on to a 7 point lead with their senior point guard, Kamryn Patterson, on the bench due foul trouble in the first half. Paw Paw chipped away at Niles' lead by outscoring their opponent 10 to 5 in the 3rd quarter. Paw Paw kept that momentum into the fourth giving them the win for the night. Niles' Amara Palmer led all scorers with 16 points and 5 steals. Kamryn Patterson chipped in 12 points and Brynn Lake contributed 4 points. Ellie Matlock led the Vikings on the boards with 7 rebounds. Paw Paw was led by Addison Ray with 13 points.

Vikings Lose: 58 - 64
Niles started the game slow falling behind by 9 points to go into the second quarter. The Vikings fought back winning each quarter following the first and forcing Three Rivers into overtime. Unfortunately fouls haunted the home team again; both Patterson and Lucero sat during a portion of the third and fourth quarter with four fouls each.
Niles was led in scoring by it's senior trio, Palmer (19 pts), Patterson (16 pts), and Lucero (11 pts). Ayshia Smith came off the bench to contribute ten points and four steals. Palmer gave the team eight rebounds and eight steals. Three Rivers were led by Rylie Glass with 19 points.
"We need to work on coming out of the gate with energy and ready to play. I am happy with the fight the girls put up. However, it's going to be a long season if we continue to have to struggle from behind. We also need to get our fouls under control. Niles won their season opener against South Haven. The Rams came out ready to play by striking first. Once Niles settled in, they took control and kept it for the remainder of the game. Niles was led by senior duo, Kamryn Patterson and Amara Palmer with 25 and 21 points respectfully. Patterson hit 5 of her 6 three pointers in the first half. The Vikings tallied 23 steals (Palmer 8, Patterson 6, Lucero 4, Bree Lake 4, Matlock 1); Palmer also led the team with 6 rebounds. Bree Lake and Palmer contributed 3 assist each. South Haven was led by Dayshauna Crowley with 16 points.
